Getting to Kew Gardens is easy enough. The E train and the F train will drop you off right in the middle of town. The Long Island Rail Road also has a Kew Gardens stop, which makes travel to and from Manhattan a snap. You can even use the LIRR to travel further out on Long Island and get closer to the beaches on the weekends.
The best way to get around Kew Gardens when you’re visiting is to use the bus system, though. There are dozens of routes through Kew Gardens and Queens, and the buses are the least expensive way to travel. You can be sure that there is a bus stop near your destination, no matter what time of day you’re traveling. It is a good idea, however, to get a copy of the bus schedule and keep it with you at all times. These buses slow their routes later at night, and you don’t want to find yourself stranded somewhere as you wait.
If you have the cash for it, you can use the taxi services during your Kew Gardens visit. The taxi drivers in New York City know their city like the backs of their hands, so you can count on your taxi driver if you’re in a hurry. Just remember that this is probably the most expensive way to travel, even if it is the most convenient.
The very best way to see Kew Gardens, though, is by foot. In fact, it’s so pretty that there are dozens of dedicated walking tours. If you’ve got the weather for it, and the time, there is no better transportation than just using your feet to get around. You’ll see a side of Kew Gardens that you’d never see behind the window of a cab or a bus.
