Though the Queens Borough is experiencing large amounts of economic growth, with new developments and projects started every day, there is still some worry over unemployment. Luckily, the county and many of the organizations in the county are dedicated to helping you find work if you need it.
You can always start your search the old fashioned way, by checking the help wanted ads in the paper each day. Many employers still search for qualified employees in this fashion. The newest form of job ads actually exist on Internet job boards, though, and many employers are turning to these job boards as a way to save money on their advertising costs. The largest of these include Craigslist.org, CareerBuilder.com, and Monster.com. It is likely that you will find something that fits your skill set on one of these sites.
If you are still having trouble finding work, then there are several organizations that are ready to help you. Many of these programs are run by colleges and universities, but you can also find independent organizations. Check out the College Opportunity to Prepare for Employment, or COPE, program at CUNY Queensborough Community College for job skills training. The Council for Airport Opportunities can help you find work in the aviation industry. The Queens Branch of Dress for Success is focused on helping women dress for job interviews and learn specific job skills. The New York Association for New Americans is in place to provide assistance to new immigrants and help them find employment as soon as possible.
With all of these great programs in place, and many others that focus on teaching job skills, making introductions, and working with specific groups, you are sure to find employment in Queens County and Kew Gardens if you are truly looking.
